- Bought this to give to my 4-year old daughter. She loves it. We've made a point to try several of the foods described, which she loves. The pictures are great. The reading level about appropriate for students who are beginning to learn comprehension skills and whose vocabulary and phonetic skills are developing. There is a page at the end with some reading comprehension questions, one for each item in the book. From an educator's perspective, however, I'd say these questions might've better been included on the pages relevant to each question, as they're supposed to test comprehension, not memory, and the material isn't linear. Seems this page was just added so it could carry a Common Core label. Like many things in education, "how" is just as important as "what." This one gets it wrong.Having said that, I didn't buy the book for it's Common Core benefit. I bought it because my little girl likes to cook in the kitchen with me and likes to read. From that perspective it's good. A bit dry, but she's not complaining.
