From AudioFile

No matter how often one hears the tale or in what form one experiences it, The Incredible Journey seems beyond all human knowledge of reality.
This adventure, with its anthropomorphic characters, has long been a favorite of all ages.
Here the drama receives a finely tuned performance.
Follows reads clearly and expertly.
Where the book shows a tendency toward overwritten atmospheric descriptions, her voice indicates emotion without stress and excitement without bathos.
Her vocal momentum lets her audience quicken to the perils of the three pets.
Nothing is added.
No theatrical frills are allowed to interfere with the mute but poignant efforts of the animals in their passage.

  •     This review is by Cora Busick, age 10, edited by Mom.This book was about two dogs and a cat. They went out of their house and went on a journey by themselves. The terrier got injured by a bear. The cat was trying to cross a stream and fell in. He accidentally went downstream where the dogs couldn't find him. At the end they found each other again. They also found their owners.I liked this book because the dogs and the cat got back to their owners again at the end. I liked reading about their adventures.

  •     Read this as a child re read it and gave it over to my granddaughter very moving and a wonderful animal story

  •     I pre-read this for my son's literature selection on the Ambleside Online homeschool curriculum. My son is 6th grade and I didn't want to give him something he thought would be...

  •     I just put down a tissue. This book is not only touching, it is brilliant. Years ago, my father suggested that I would probably enjoy this book since I loved animals.

  •     My granddaughter loves to read so I've been giving her all of the books that I enjoyed as a child. I know she'll love the story.

  •     Nice story for kids

  •     I have loved this book for so many years and have used it with my classes at school. It was time for a new copy! This is such a great book about friendship and endurance and never giving up.

  •     Excellent read if you or your children like animal stories, and based on truth, to boot.

  •     Such a touching story of love and loyalty! It is extremely well written giving beautiful descriptions of every aspect of the story.

  •     A great read. I first picked up this book in grade school. Now, nearly 50 years old I've read it once more, as I know I will yet again. If only the world were still like this....

  •     love it

  •     I read this book as a girl in the early-70s, and was in love with the story. Jump ahead 40 years and I am enjoying helping my kids do reports on the book after they read it. It tells the story of a cat and two dogs who journey hundreds of miles to find their human family. On the way they face all kinds of adventures and dangers, and learn that together they are stronger than each of them is alone. They motivate each other to continue on the hard journey, protect and care of each other, and by the end of the journey they are totally bonded. This book was also made into a Disney movie which I enjoyed as a kid, but as always the book is better than the movie. I love seeing classic books from my childhood still being read and enjoyed by children today. The stories are timeless and teach lessons about love, devotion, honesty and bravery. Some other books like this one that your older child (8-12 yrs) might enjoy are Island of the Blue Dolphins, My Side Of The Mountain, Where the Red Fern Grows, Shiloh, Charlotte's Web, Hatchet, Because Of Winn Dixie, Gentle Ben, Julie Of The Wolves, Incident At Hawk's Hill, The Yearling, Black Beauty, The Call Of The Wild, Wind In The Willows, and Bambi.

  •     This was a beautiful book. I bought it for my 10 year old grandson for one of his novels in homeschool. We thoroughly enjoyed reading the book, and we also watched the movie on amazon prime. We were thrilled how close the movie mirrored the book. The actions of the animals were outstanding. I highly recommend the book and the movie.

  •     I've lost count of the number of times I've read this book over approximately 40 years. It's a beautiful story told in rich language and offers a small window of comfort when life gets tough or on a chilly night when the fall leaves rattle in the breeze. I applaud the author and offer my gratitude.

  •     Enjoyed by the entire family as a read aloud if you enjoy books that use wonderful and detailed descriptions with no dumbing down for children then this book is for you! The season is the Fall, the area is Ontario, Canada. Meet John Longridge, a writer, who has been animal sitting for the last 8 months for a professor friend of his who had to go overseas on an assignment. The three animals in his care are:>Tao, a Siamese cat>Bodger, an old, white English Bull Terrier>Luath, a young Labrador RetrieverJohn is heading to his brother's cabin a couple hundred miles away. Leaving a note as well as talking with his housekeeper Mrs. Oakes, all is arranged for her to look after the animals until he returns. Unfortunately Tao knocks the paperweight in the night dislodging the second sheet of paper which ends up in the fire. The next morning, Luath takes the initiative to head home to his master. Will the others follow? Mrs. Oakes believes that the animals have gone with John so no one is worried about them.Heading west, Tao is able to catch his own food. Bodger is too old and weakness soon occurs. What will happen? Luath has been bred to only retrieve and not harm. Will the hunger finally take over? This is truly a story of an INCREDIBLE JOURNEY! Unlike some books where the author has the animals talking there is none of that in this book. We see the relationship/bond the three have between them but that is it. This book is 11 chapters and the animals truly face some very difficult dangers along with the odd unexpected kindness here and there.FANTASTIC! Highly recommend. Our 13, 10 and 7 year old loved it as did I. I purchased this book for my Kindle. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

  •     Here I am, waiting on laundry to be complete, crying at the ending of a wonderful book, just like I did so many years ago as a child. To those who recall, in the 1960's, at least annually the teacher would pass out a small pamphlet with a list of books for their students to read outside of school. This book was an early favorite of mine, given I grew up with any pets and a Siamese in particular.Because you wife and I have a new kitten - a Siamese kitten- we were struggling for a name and came across Tao on an online list. Immediately I downloaded this book to my kindle app and promptly read it again. Frankly, I was surprised how well I remembered the book's details, and how happy and magical it made/makes me feel!I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves cats and dogs, as a primer for the James Herriot books.

  •     One of the most heartwarming stories I've ever read and it's much better than the "Homeward Bound" movie. I haven't seen the original movie for this so I can't compare that. This is the perfect book for animal and adventure lovers. It was also perfect to read next to a warm fireplace in the winter.
